FORMED: 1989, Oxford, England
Radiohead is widely regarded as one of the world's most
important bands of today. While their debut was rather
modest, they were shot to stardom after the success of "OK
Computer" - a success that few probably would have expected
or predicted when the five of them started playing together
in the early 80s after meeting at Abingdon School in
Oxford.
Thom Yorke was the driving force of the band. He was
singing in the punk band TNT, but asked the TNT bass
player, Colin Greenwood, if he wanted to join him and
guitar player Ed O'Brien in a new band. One year older Phil
Selway started playing drums in the band. Colin's younger
brother Jonny hung around them, bugging them, asking to
join. Eventually, he was allowed to play with them, firs More...

Review about Radiohead
Standalone | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Talk Show Host performed by Radiohead
I think the fact that this song IS just a B-side makes it better. Its much more of a standalone track, that really stands out for me, than it would have been if found on "OK Computer" or "The Bends". If it was on an album it might have been dwarfed by all Radiohead's other amazing tracks; Its not part of something brilliant, but more IS something brilliant.

------ About the song No Surprises performed by Radiohead
Although it's great that people have related the song to themselves or what they see in the lyrics as what is being portrayed, it was well documented by the band that this is actually a song about politics and peoples complacence with political life. the song shows the average person's view on politics and wanting no alarms and no surprises, and having a 'pretty house and garden' with which they are far more interested in.
But truly everyone take it as you will. if i ever feel down i guess i can relate it to some feelings i have at the time, just because a band specifies one meaning doesnt mean that it cant relate to people and be understood in different ways. just enjoy (or if you must-hate-) the song and let everyone have a view- stop being so critical of people, people!

------ About the song LET DOWN performed by Radiohead
This song is definitely emotional but dont i find it depressing.Take the last 30 seconds or so for example, i feel this is one of the most uplifting moments of radiohead's back catalogue (bar the last 30secs of black star that is!). The guitars are fresh and Yorke's voice and harmonizations sound pure and honest.

------ About the song Where I End and You Begin performed by Radiohead
I think this song talks about the inherent distance between two individuals - the idea of "eating" the other person could be related to absorbing the other to elimite that distance, and then "There'll be no more lies"
I don't quite understand how the verse on "X'll mark the place" fits into this theory but...

------ About the song Backdrifts performed by Radiohead
I think its taking about people with "issues", as damaged goods, broken individuals, for so many reasons...I can totally relate to this! being stuck in a situation and not realizing you're actually backsliding insted of moving forward...

------ About the song Paranoid Android performed by Radiohead
as much as all of you would like to believe this song speaks profound political words or is somehow brilliantly existential, its based on douglas adams' the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy.
zaphod beeblebrox refers to marvin, the manic depressed droid, as the "paranoid android" - the title, QED.
"you will be first against the wall"
adams also goes on to write,
"the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy defines the marketing division of the sirius cybernetics corporation as "a bunch of mindless jerks wholl be the first against the wall when the revolution comes,"....curiously enough, an edition of the encyclopedia galactica that had the good fortune to fallthrough a time warp from a thousand years in the future defined the marketing division of sirius cybernetics corporation as "a bunch of mindless jerks who were the first against the wall when the revolution came."
so simply put, its a reflection on a late 70s sci-fi novel. and probably not much more.
but hey, im fifteen so what do i know, right?

This song transends so many different boundries...it is sad, it is powerful, it is tragic, it is...true. It is like a contained explosion, with the guitar riff hitting you in the nuts like a sledge hammer.

------ About the song CLIMBING UP THE WALLS performed by Radiohead
these band has recently released In Rainbows, solid sounded and highly acclaimed record. Though many critics claim OK computer is the best thing Radiohead has ever done. Rubbish! One should not listen to differnt f*ckers, trying to use their status as they like, you should Radiohead by yourself, this Oxford five is doing fantastic and different music, lyrics and sound are dramatically changeable. "Climbing..." has been hanging in my consciousness for a decade already. It's very strong piece, as for me. Thank You, Radiohead!

------ About the song CLIMBING UP THE WALLS performed by Radiohead
these guys have recently released In Rainbows, latest studio record with warm lyrics and solid sound. I can't take side of people who claim OK computer is Radiohead's best album, one shouldn't form about this band only hearing others talking about OK computer as a f*cking masterpiece. Radiohead is brilliant in every record, changes in style and manner of lyrics is important to the Band so we should praise the effort of Thom and Co. to share.
My most memorable record though is Kid A, actually "Idioteque" and "How to disappear completely". but never the less, "Climbing..." has stuck in my consciousness for a decade already. No doubt, Radiohead is the best I can have today, thank You)

------ About the song Idioteque performed by Radiohead
I'm using this song for a project in my class. If any of you have read The Things They Carried, we have to find songs to fit the theme + what not. I immediately thought of this song. Possibly because the repetition of children "women and children first. children first" + not to save them. ha, yeah. and then "I have seen too much
You haven't seen enough
You haven't seen it" those verses reflect the theme of the book and although this song may not directly relate i feel as if it carries the same tone. SO for those who say it has no meaning, it does. it definintely can be interpreted into many things, and particular artist want that.
This is a great song.

------ About the song Idioteque performed by Radiohead
"Everyone talks about how this song dosn't mean anything, or how it's meaning is really open to interperation, but I don't see it. It's seems pretty clear to me that this song is about how the world is unraveling and nobody seems to care. The fact that it uses techno dance music is meant to be part of the irony. This would also explain why its called idioteque, which seems to be a mixutre of idiot and discoteque. The world is going to hell, and everybody's dancing."

^^ So true! I love the last part about your theory on the techno music. Its amazing.

This song is on the album OK Computer. It was released in 1997. The general public had not even heard of Sarah Palin until mid-2008, let alone a British rock star who hates the media. Are you serious, man?

Unfortunately Beautiful | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Myxomatosis performed by Radiohead
Compared to others my interpretation may seem insignificant.
Most reviewers say that this song is about self-mutilation and while I don't personally agree with that, Myxomatosis, A disease that small mammals can only acquire, is referencing a human only disease. Like in the first verse where he mentions his partner "ate him up for breakfast" and "screwed him up in a vice" is like saying she gave him a type disease, metaphorically of course. Like Myxomatosis, STI's are transferable through the blood. It's genius and possibly my favorite radiohead song.
Also let's not forget how beautifully composed it was. Every instrument in the piece matches perfectly in a cacophony of sounds managing to create a perfect atmospheric effect that is so fitting.
"that wasn't my intention"

------ About the song No Surprises performed by Radiohead
Well we can obviously see that its about suicide, ie by carbon monoxide poisoning and the fact that its a 'final fit'. Personally, i think its the realisation of a depressing life, which can only be seen after getting all of the materialistic possessions that you could have.

------ About the song Karma Police performed by Radiohead
I think that no other version could ever be as good as the original...and I don't think that is bad that a lot of Radiohead's lyrics are depressive...I also love Muse, and they also have great (and depressive) lyrics and music, but of course, they are very different bands, I don't like to compare...
Chris, I agree, however... | Reviewer: Dimitri
------ About the song Paranoid Android performed by Radiohead
I agree with you Chris in the statements about wacky red-neck americans. There are plenty of them. I can't stand that ignorant nationalism either, however, you seem to have quite a bit of pride in being, from the UK, no?
There are three parties in the US. The right wing bigots who go on and on about their ridiculous "jesus christ blah blah blah" B.S., and the left wing pushing for socialism (well, it's not like the US isn't a thinly veiled socialism anyway. whatever. that's a whole different rant.). In the middle would be the independent party, who, although not as politically strong, I'd say is a larger party than both the democrats and republicans. I say that because very few people actually fall into those two extremes parties of conservative and liberal. The rest of us fall into a liberal conservative mentality, (or a conservative liberal like Obama.) We're somewhere in between.
Blaming american people for the kyoto treaty is like blaming the british for the war between Israel and Palestine (or Pakistan and India, for that matter.)
Blaming the american people for corporations like McDonalds is like blaming people for making money. The point of a company is to make money. That's it's job. And if those in the UK didn't want McDonalds, then don't buy it. The fact that you all eat McDonalds is what keeps it there. Boycott it should you like.
Great Britain through the previous few hundred years certainly did its fair share of "controlling the world" by way of trade, by way of religion and by way of war. Know your history of the "british empire" my friend - take a look at the map of what made up of the "british empire". I'd go as far as to call Great Britain a nation of "war mongers".
Talk of oppression! India (East India Company. hello.), Newfoundland, Hong Kong, the US colonies, modern day canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa (and the other half of africa which I wont' even get into), the oppression of Northern Ireland, bermuda/bahamas and Jamaica... and a number of other british colonies. Tell me again who oppressed the local people, and forced a government upon them? The British.
It blows my mind when the English have something to say about the US enforcing its culture on the rest of the world. Ha! Hypocrites!
The wars that england was involved in, either as protagonist or antagonist over the last few hundred years is incredible. Keep paying attention:
War of Independence
WW1
WW2
Anglo-Spanish war
Anglo-Dutch war
Nine years war
War of the Spanish Succession
Seven Years War
Carnatic War
Napoleonic War
War of 1812
First Opium War
Anglo Afghan War
Crimean War
Second Boer War
Anglo Irish War
and finally the Falklands War
And while we're throwing shit at the wall, let's also mention that the British certainly played their part in slavery in the US by trafficking Africans to the US... all for the sake of the British Sterling.
The british pointing the finger at the US is the pot calling the kettle black.

I like the song because of the title its black star. My other favorite thing is just before the chorus area when the leading guitar does that loopy run. That is really exciting for me to hear.
